NYC MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO, NYC COUNCIL MEMBER BILL PERKINS ENDORSE EACH OTHER FOR ELECTION
New York – New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Council Member Bill Perkins announced today their endorsement of one another for NYC Mayor and NYC Council, respectively, citing their shared commitment to fighting for better educational resources and support from the city, lifting up working families, and expanding affordable housing.
“Mayor de Blasio has consistently worked to make our city better, safer, fairer and our future brighter,” said Council Member Perkins. “He is expanding affordable housing, launched universal pre-K for every four-year-old in this city, and brought down crimes to a record low, making this city safer for our residents. Both the Mayor and I are strong supporters of civil liberties and rights, and plan to continue working together to ensure that all New Yorker’s rights are protected. I have enjoyed working closely with the Mayor, and look forward to working with him the next four years to continue to protect New York’s ‘gorgeous mosaic’ from Trumpism and to make New York a better place not only for my district, but for the city as a whole.”
“Bill Perkins has been a tireless advocate for both his constituents in Upper Manhattan, as well as for residents across New York City. From serving in Albany and City Hall to his days a tenant organizer, Bill Perkins is as strong and effective a progressive leader as they come, and I am proud to endorse him for re-election to the City Council,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Bill took on landlords to strengthen our lead paint laws to protect our children, worked to raise wages for workers and protect the rights of the elderly, fought for cleaner air, and has been a tireless champion of public schools. Bill is the type of leader we need in the City Council and I look forward to continue working with him to keep the progress going.”
The Mayor has also been endorsed by the Civil Service Employees Association Local 1000, IUOE, the Council of School Supervisors & Administrators Local One, Hotel Trades Council, Working Families Party, the Communications Workers of America District 1, IBEW Local 3, the United Federation of Teachers, District Council 37, District Council 1707, SEIU 32BJ, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local One, Musicians Local 802, the RWDSU, the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association, UNITE-HERE Local 100, the Professional Staff Congress and the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board of Workers United, and dozens of elected leaders.
As New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio has fought every day for our great city. He has passed universal Pre-K for every four-year-old in the City. He has expanded paid sick leave to cover thousands of more workers. And, he has raised the minimum wage for all City employees and contractors. He has also tirelessly worked to reduce stop and frisk and pursue reforms to bring the police and community closer together, while also driving crime to an all-time low. Mayor de Blasio has expanded the number of affordable apartments and took on the landlord lobby—and under his watch, rents were frozen for two straight years. He fights every day to make our city better for everyone — no matter where they live or how much money they make.
